You basically want to cut the top off LOL! Click inside the box on your pot. You should now have marching ants on the top of your pot only.
Edit > Cut. (Ctrl + X) Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer. (Ctrl + L) With your mover tool move it back to the same place it was before cutting it.
