Butterfly Tag Tutorial

For this tutorial you will need:
Paint Shop Pro 8  ~ download a trial version.
Butterfly shape ~ download here for v8 and download here for v7, extract to your shapes folder.
An image of your choice or you can use the same image I am using.
(Right-click and Copy, then in PSP Paste as a new image.)

Shift+D to make a copy of your image, close the original.

Resize to a desired size, I will resize my image to 500 on the width, aspect ratio checked.

Shift+D once more.

Activate one of the images.

Image > Greyscale.

Image > Increase Color Depth > 16 million colors.

Edit > Copy.

Activate the other image.

Edit > Paste > As a new layer. (Ctrl+L)

Rename this layer grey.

You can close the greyscale image.

In your Layer Palette right click on the background layer and Promote to layer.

Rename this layer color.

Layers > Arrange > Move up.

Set your foreground color to solid black and your background to null.

Select your shapes tool and choose one of the butterfly shapes to use with these settings:
Width 2.00
Retain style UNchecked
Vector and Anti-alias checked

Draw a butterfly in the center of your image.  Mine is about 390 x 290.

Activate the Object selector tool and rotate the butterfly slightly.

Object > Align > Center in canvas.

In the Layer Palette right click on the vector layer and convert to raster.

Rename this layer butterfly.

Select your magic wand and set at:
Tolerance 0
Anti-alias checked
Feather 0
Outside

Click outside of the butterfly.

If there are accents areas inside the wing that you want to cut out hold down the shift key and click inside of them.  The ones I choose to cut out are in red.

Selections > Modify > Expand > 1.

Activate the color layer.

Hit the delete key.

Selections > Select none.

Activate the grey layer.

Right click on the layer and duplicate.

Adjust > Blur > Guassian Blur > 5.00.

Set the layer blend mode to Darken.

Activate the color layer.

Effects > 3D effects > Drop shadow > these settings:
Horizontal & Vertical 2
Opacity 65
Blur 6
Black

Toggle your styles boxes so that now the black is background and foreground is null.

Add the text of your choice and position where you like.

My text settings:
Create as vector
Curlz MT
Size 36
Stroke 0
Anti-alias checked

Right click on the vector layer and convert to raster.

Effects > 3D effects > Drop shadow > these settings:
Horizontal & Vertical 1
Opacity 100
Blur 2
Bright color from your image, I am using #326E79.

*You may want to apply the above drop shadow more than once depending on the darkness of your image.

Using the crop tool crop your image, leaving a small amount of space around your butterfly.

Layers > Merge > Merge visible.

Selections > Select all.

Selections > Modify > Contract > 5.

Selections > Modify > Feather > 5.

Selections > Invert.

Hit your delete key.

Selections > Select none.

Effects > 3D effects > Drop shadow > these settings:
Horizontal & Vertical 2
Opacity 65
Blur 6
Black

Now just add the background of choice and size to your liking.
