Dimension with Masks

For this tutorial you will need:
PSP 7 ~ download a trial version.
Simple Filters ~ download here.
Tutorial mask ~ download here.
(Unzip into your mask folder.)

If you choose to use a mask of your own I have found that one with bold lines, rather than a lot of gray areas, works best for this technique.

 "Right click" and save the graphic below.

Open your graphic of choice in PSP.

Shift + D to make a copy and close the original.

Right click on the background layer in your Layer Palette and duplicate.

Turn off the bottom layer by clicking on the little glasses.

Make sure your copy layer is active.

Masks > Load from disk > find the folk.msk > click open.

You should now see the mask.

Masks > Delete mask.  Click yes in the pop-up window.

Selections > Select all.

Selections > Float.

Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout > these settings:
Horizontal & Vertical 4
Opacity 50-60
Blur 8-10
Color black

Repeat the Cutout again but change the Horizontal and Vertical to -4.

Selections > Defloat.

Add a new layer.

Effects > 3D Effects > Drop shadow > these settings:
Horizontal & Vertical 1
Opacity 100
Blur 1
Color white

Selections > Select none.

In your Layer Palette lower the opacity of the drop shadow layer to 50-60.

Turn your background layer back on by clicking on the glasses again.
