When I was in girl scouts - yes I can remember that far back! - we made what was called a God's Eye.  If you made these as a kid I hope this tutorial will bring back fond memories.

For this tutorial you will need:
PSP 7 ~ download a trial version.
Phone Pole.bmp ~ download here.
(Unzip and open in PSP patterns folder.)
Rope tube > download here.
(Unzip and export into your PSP tubes.)

Open a new image:
400 x 400 pixels
Transparent
16.7 Million colors

In your layer palette rename you first layer "guide".

Set your Styles box foreground to red and background to null.

Select your shape tool and set at:
Rectangle
Line width 1
Antialais checked

Place the cursor at 50,50 and draw down and across to 350,350.
You should get a square that is 300 x 300.

Image > Rotate > Degrees 45, either direction and all checked.

Add a new layer and name it "original"

Choose your tube tool and set at:
Rope tube
Scale 25
Step 1

Click once on one of the corners, hold down the shift key then click on the next corner and then the next two, one at a time following the lines of the square.  When you get to the starting corner let up on the shift key.

Now you should have an out line of the rope.

Do this again but just inside the first rope line.

Repeat this twice more and you should have four rows of "yarn".
