Gray Flannel Border
Tutorial This tutorial was
created and put on this site on September 19, 2002. For this tutorial you
will need:
Open a new image: We will call this the small graphic. Open a new image: We will call this the big graphic.
Flood fill the small graphic with a medium gray color. (I am using #9C9C9C.) Effects >
Plug-in Filters > DSB Flux > Bright Noise > with these settings: Effects > Texture > Texture > grayflan preset or the
following settings: On one of your Style boxes click on the small black arrow, choose Pattern, click in the Style box and you will get a pop-up window. Set the pattern to the tile you just made, no angle and 100%. Flood fill your big graphic with this pattern. Minimize the big graphic for later. Now back to your small graphic. Set your foreground to null and your background to the same gray color as before. Select your shapes tool and choose one of the fancy shapes to use. Set your tool options box to: Place your cursor at 5,5 and draw until your cursor is at 145,145. Just in case.... Objects > Align > Center in canvas. In your layer palette right click on your vector layer and convert to raster layer. Effects >
Plug-in Filters > DSB Flux > Bright Noise > with these settings: Effects > Texture > Texture > same settings. Selections > Select all. Selections > Float. Effects > 3D Effects >
Cutout > these settings: Layers > Merge > Merge visible. Edit > Copy. Bring up your big graphic. Edit > Paste > as a new layer. Using your mover tool position your small graphic over to the left side to create your border. Layers > Merge > Merge all. You can also colorize this tile very easily since you built it in the gray. Have fun! Thanks for trying my tutorial. Click to see the border
