Tutorial This tutorial was created and put on this site on
January 28, 2002. For this tutorial you
will need: Right click and save the picture below or use one of your own.
Open your image in PSP. Image > Resize
> If your original layer in the layer palette says "Background", right click on it and choose "Promote to layer". Rename this layer "original". Right click and choose "Duplicate". Add a new layer and name it "fill". Layers > Arrange > Send to bottom. Add a new layer and name it mesh. Layers > Arrange > Move up. Ok we have all of our layers now let's make our tile. Activate your "copy of original" layer. Choose your selection tool and set at star 1 shape, 0 feather and antialias checked. Place your cursor in the top left area of your image and draw a star that basically fills the image.
Selections > Invert. Hit your delete key once. Selections > Select none. Activate your fill layer. Flood fill with #EECEE2. Turn off the visibility of your copy of original layer by clicking on the glasses for that layer in your layer palette. Activate the mesh layer. Flood fill with white. Effects > Plug-in Filters > ScreenWorks > Aged mosaic. Effects > Plug-in Filters > Transparency > Eliminate white. View > Zoom in by 1. Choose your magic wand and click on a piece of the black mesh. Selections > Modify > Select similar. Flood fill with #EECEE2. Selections > Select none. Turn your copy of original layer back on. Adjust the opacity of the original layer to 50% and the copy of original layer to 75%. Your layer palette should now look like this:
Layers > Merge > Merge visible. Effects > Plug-in Filters > Simple > 4 Way Average. Effects > Plug-in Filters > Simple > Quick Tile. Your finished tile:
Try this with other shapes in your selection tool and other screen types in your ScreenWorks filter. Page 2 for other shape examples.
