Mini Pixel Beating Heart

This tutorial was inspired by Pixel Mini Heart by Fantasy DreamWorld.

For this tutorial you will need:
Paint Shop Pro 8 & Animation Shop  ~ download a trial version.

Open a new image:
50 x 50 pixels
Transparent
Raster background
16.7 Million colors

Flood fill the first layer with white.

Set your foreground to solid red, I am using #800000.

View > Zoom > In by 5 steps.

Repeat the zoom.

Select your paint brush tool and set at:
Size 1
Hardness 100
Step 1
Density 100
Thickness 100
Rotation 0
Opacity 100

Draw your heart shape.
These are the pixel counts that I used:

Select your magic wand and set the tolerance to 0 and click inside the heart.

Flood fill the selection with white.

Selections > Float.

Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout > these settings:
Vertical & Horizontal 0
Opacity 100
Blur 12
Shadow color same as your heart outline, I used #800000

Selections > Select none.

In your layer palette right click on the heart layer and duplicate it 5 times.

You should now have 6 layers with the heart on it.

Right click on each layer and rename them:

20
15
10
5
0

Now your layer palette should look something like this:

Activate your 5 layer.

Effects > Distortion Effects > Punch > 5% > ok.

Activate your 10 layer.

Effects > Distortion Effects > Punch > 10% > ok.

Activate your 15 layer.

Effects > Distortion Effects > Punch > 15% > ok.

Activate your 20 layer.

Effects > Distortion Effects > Punch > 20% > ok.

Activate your 25 layer.

Effects > Distortion Effects > Punch > 25% > ok.

Select the crop tool.

Draw the box around your heart being careful not to chop off the stray pixels - these are part of the punched hearts.

Double click inside the box to crop the image.

In the layer palette right click on the bottom/white layer and delete.

File > save as > heart.psp

Start up Animation Shop.

File > Animation Wizard.

First screen - Same size as first image frame
Second screen - Transparent
Third screen - Upper left corner of frame & With the canvas color
Fourth screen - Yes & 15
Fifth screen - Add image ~ heart.psp
Sixth screen - finish

Edit > Select all.

Edit > Copy.

Click on the last frame.

Edit > Paste > Paste after current frame.

Animation > Reverse frames.

Now we are ready to optomize and save the beating heart.

File > Optomization Wizard.

First screen - Animated GIF file
Second screen - Customize button, Particle Transparency tab, color of background you want, ok
Third screen - next
Fourth screen - next
Fifth screen - finish

File > Save!

All done!
