Distressed Sand Frame

For this tutorial you will need:
Paint Shop Pro 8  ~ download a trial version.
An image of choice or use the image that I am using for this tutorial
by clicking here and copying it into PSP.
(The image I have chosen is The Concert by John Anster Christian Fitzgerald 1850)
My sand tile ~ click here and copy into PSP.
Crackle tile:
For PSP8 ~ download here and unzip into your PSP/patterns folder.
For PSP7 ~ download here, unzip and open in PSP.

First we need to set up the sand tiles.

Shift + D to copy the sand tile.

Adjust > Color balance > Manual color correction > these settings:
Source color #C5C5C5
Target color a warm medium color from your image, I am using #E1AAA9

Activate the second sand tile and go into color correction again.
This time you want a lighter neutral color taken from your image, I am using #EFE1D3.
You should not need to change the source color.

You can now minimize the sand tiles.

Activate your image.

Set your foreground to:
Pattern
The warm colored sand tile
Angle 0
Scale 100

Set your background to:
Pattern
The neutral colored sand tile
Angle 45
Scale 85

 

Frame Bead 1

Image > Add borders > these settings:
Pixels
Symmectric 1
Black (or another very dark color)

Image > Add borders > these settings:
Pixels
Symmectric 5
White

Select your magic wand and set at:
Tolerance 0
Feather 0
Anti-alias UNchecked

Click inside the white border.

Select your fill tool and fill the selection with the warm sand tile - should be with the left mouse button.

Selections > Invert.

Effects > 3D effects > Cutout > these settings:
Horizontal & Vertical 0
Opacity 100
Blur 15.0
Color black
Fill UNchecked

Selections > Invert.

Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel > these settings:
Bevel  Rounded
Width  4
Smoothness  16
Depth  2
Ambience  1
Shininess  50
Color  White
Angle  315
Intensity  35
Elevation  35

Selections > Select none.

Image > Add borders > these settings:
Pixels
Symmectric 1
Black

 

Frame Bead 2

Image > Add borders > these settings:
Pixels
Symmectric 5
White

Select the white border with the magic wand

Fill the selection with the neutral sand tile - should be with the right mouse button.

Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel > same settings.

Selections > Select none.

Image > Add borders > these settings:
Pixels
Symmectric 1
Black

 

Frame Bead 3

Image > Add borders > these settings:
Pixels
Symmectric 5
White

Select the white border with the magic wand

Fill the selection with the warm sand tile - should be with the left mouse button.

Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel > same settings.

Selections > Select none.
